8vo. Uniformly bound in two contemporary full calf bindings with five raised bands and gilt lettering and ornamentation to spines. Light wear to extremities, a few scratches and marks to boards. Small paper-label pasted on to top of spine. Inner hinge split, a nice set. (18), 319 + engraved half-title, frontispiece and 31 plates; (4), 299 pp. + 2 folded plates. 


Nice set of the fourth 8vo-edition (First published in folio in 1733) of this highly influential work considered a frundamental text in classical dressage and horsemanship. La Gueriniere advocated the use of the shoulder-in at all gaits, including the gallop and stated the rider must also have a good seat in order to have a soft light hand.

His teachings emphasized harmony between horse and rider, focusing on the development of balance, suppleness and obedience in the horse through systematic training techniques – the work had a lasting impact on equestrian training methods.
