8vo. In contemporary full calf with four raised bands with richly gilt spine. Traces from small paper-label to upper compartment on spine. Light wear to extremities, corners bumped with a bit of loss of leather. Inner hinges split. First and last leaves with a few wormholes, not affecting text. Internally nice and clean. (2), 502 pp.

First edition of Jacques Marsollier’s 1693 historical account of the Catholic Inquisition which, interestingly, was placed on the Vatican's prohibited book list in 1694.
