First edition of the official account of the famous Danish oceanographic expedition, setting out some 15 years before the Challenger-Expedition, bringing back important scientific and ethnographical material. 
The Galathea was a Danish naval frigate that was sent on a scientific expedition around the world from 1845 to 1847. The expedition was led by Captain Steen Andersen Bille and aimed to conduct scientific research in various fields including botany, zoology, geology, and ethnography. The Galathea visited numerous locations across the globe, including the Pacific Islands, Australia, South America, and South Africa.
