Scarce first edition of the first Swedish translation of Tocqueville's monumental "De la démocratie en Amerique", one of the most important texts in the history of political thought.

The original French edition of the work appeared in 1835-1840, and the present Swedish edition is thus very early, the first volume appearing before the last volume of the original edition had appeared. The work greatly influenced liberal thought and politics in Sweden.
