8vo. (19,8 x 13,8 cm.). In original state with black pierced covers moulded from a mixture of papier-mâché and plaster to imitate a Gothic carved wood-binding. A few small bursts in binding, but no loss of material. Spine in black leather with some demolition of the gilt lettering. Gilt edges. Gilt inner dentelles. Title-page in red/black. II,(4),XCV pp. + 1 pp. listing "Illuminated Works by H. Noel Humphreys". Black letters with headings printed in read. With 4 full-page and 2 in the text of fine chromolithograped illustration. Some textleaves framed with wood-engravings. Clean and fine.


First printing of Humphrey's finest production, only printed in 1000 copies, but not all bound as this with its imitation of a carved Gothic wood-binding.
