First printing of one of Beguelin's influential papers on probability theory.
In 1747 Beguelin became a fellow of the Berlin Academy of Sciences, in the period 1786-89 the Director of the section for Philosophy. He wrote memorials on mathematics (probability), physics and metaphysics. He incensed the displeasure of Frederick the Great in 1764, but won again the grace of Friedrich's successor Friedrich Wilhelm II (reg. 1786-1796), his former disciple, in 1768 who gave him the estate Lichterfelde.
