HÜBNER, MARTIN.

De la saisie des batimens neutres, ou du droit qu'ont les nations belligéranted d'arréter les navires des peuples amis. 2 vols.

Le Haye, 1759.

8vo. Uniformly bound in two very nice contemporary full calf bindings with richly gilt backs. Small paper label pasted on to top of spine indicating the placement in an estate library. Ex-libris (Carl Juel, Danish statesman and owner of Valdemar's Castle) to verso of front board. Back board of vol. 1 and front board of vol. 2 with holes in leather, otherwise a very fine and clean copy. (10), XL, 266 pp.; XV, 1, 311 pp.

Very nice first edition of Hübner's important work in which he for the first time formulated the rule that cargo on neutral ships is not a legitimate prize in warfare. This principle was later internationally acknowledged in the 1856 Paris Declaration Respecting Maritime Law.
