Small 4to. Old full calf with old rebacking. Somewhat rubbed. Engraved frontispiece and engraved portrait of C. Tromp. (4),496 pp. 4 pp of Content (Bladwyzer) present of 8 (?) and 9 engraved plates (all, mostly folded and showing naval action). Some browning and brownspots, some small tears to plates, old name partly erased from title, small stamp on title.


The scarce first edition. As Vice-admiral for the Dutch navy he served in the first, second and third Anglo-Dutch War (Battles og Leghorn, Battle of Lowestoft) and many other battles of Wars. In 1677 he became Admiral-general of the Danish navy and Knight in the Order of the Elephant (an engraving together with the Danish king showing this) and in the same year he became a Danish Count, and he defeted the Swedish navy in the Battle of Öland.
