Bound in an exquisite and elegant dark purple full morocco binding with five raised bands and gilt lettered title and author to spine. Boards with three blindstamped borders inside eachother (2 + 7 + 2 lines) and the raised bands culminating in small blindstamped stars to boards. Single gilt lines to all edges of baords and small gilt lines to capitals. Hand-stitched capital-bands in purple, green, and yellow. Inner boards lavishly decorated in typical Art Nouveau-style with morocco-inlays in pink, purple, beige, yellow, brown, green, and red, on an in-laid dark blue morocco-background. The magnificent inlaid floral decorations intertwined with Art Nouveau-typical lines and bands, inside which several both gilt and silvered lines. Marbled free end-papers, first and last of which covered with purple silk to recto and verso respectively. All edges gilt. Housed in a blue half-morocco chemise with gilt lettered title and author and in a blue morocco-edged box of marbled paper. Binding signed in gold to bottom of front board. Ex-libris to front free end-paper. In near mint condition, in- as well as ex-ternally. Chemise with minor wear to corners. Box with wear to extremities and a small crack to bottom. 73 pp. (including the frontispiece and the 4 half-titles) + 63 leaves (being the 4 extra suites of the decorations and illustrations) + 3 blank leaves. Copy nr. 12 out of 20 copies on papier du Japan. One of the 20 copies with an extra suite of etchings and an extra suite of woodcuts as well as an extra suite of the etchings in the first state and one in black on the vellum paper of the edition. A part from these 20 copies, 139 copies appeared on vélin (no suites), 1 copy mounted on papier Walthman, and 20 copies intended for the collaborators. This copy bound in a magnificent "hidden" Art Nouveau-binding by Gruel. The drawings by Merson are engraved by Ch. Chessa and those by Giraldon are engraved by Florian. "Gruel.
